This map portrays the Cape Fear River area from Wilmington to Cape Fear at a date post 1889 and shows the locations of the Confederate fortifications and other defenses and the names and positions of Union battleships at the time of the battle of Fort Fisher in January 1865. Includes forts, lighthouses, a dam near Fort Buchanan, roads, railroads, cities, and towns. A note in the lower right corner of the map provides the names of officers, companies and regiments, and number of men in the fort during the battle. This map was formerly classified as M.C. 99-E.
