Description
Summary:The objective of this research work was to identify zoonotic parasites in Hoplias malabaricus "fasaco" collected in the Belén Iquitos-Peru market, during the months of July to December. A total of 50 specimens were analyzed, which were processed by direct observation method, in the Laboratory of Parasitology and Aquaculture Health, of the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute (IIAP). The study was non-experimental, qualitative and quantitative, results: 6 species of zoonotic parasites were identified, four from the Nematoda Phylum: Eustrongylides sp., Anisakis sp., Contracaecum sp. Terranova sp., One from the Phylum Plathelmintes: Ithyoclinostomum dimorphum and one from the Phylum Arthropoda: Sebekia sp. The parasite indices showed a prevalence of Eustrongylides sp. 30%, Contracaecum sp. and Ithioclinostomun dimorphum with 16%, Anisakis sp., Terranova sp., and Sebekia sp. to 2% respectively. The highest mean intensity was 13 parasites per parasitized fish, recorded in Terranova sp., The highest mean abundance was 0.44 for Contracaecum sp. The fixation organs were; stomach 68%, muscles 17% and liver 8%. The fish had an average size of 29 ± 8 cm and 357 ±115 g. The correlation of size and weight with parasite abundance is statistically significant (p < 0.05), showing that the larger and heavier the fish, the abundance of zoonotic parasites is high.
