Description
Summary:Geology and paleoenvironment based on foraminifer’s analysis is the research study that carried out to identify the correlation of the forams abundance to the age of Tonasa formation. The forams assemblages distribution resulted by the analysis of the taxonomy in an understanding of their shape and morphology features. Besides, their assemblages are used to describe the age of the depositional environment of the research area. Administratively, the study area is located at Doidoi area in Barru Regency, South Sulawesi province. Astronomically, the study area is located at longitude (119°40’47”E—119°43’56”E) and latitude of (-4°32’22”S—-4°34’42”S). This research conducted to provide a detailed geological map of the study area in Maros Regency with scale 1: 25,000 and to identify the depositional environment and age of the Tonasa Formation based on the foraminifer’s assemblages. The lithology of this area mostly covers the limestone unit which is including the Tonasa Formation that has age of Eocene to Middle Miocene. In order to achieve the objectives, a few methods used which are geological mapping for updating the map and measuring section for specification (forams). At the end of this research, a geological map is produced with exact information of the lithology of the area which is dominantly covered by the limestone unit of Tonasa formation. The study is more related to the micropaleontology observation that correlated to the depositional environment that basically shows the occurrences of the shallow marines by the observation of the benthonic forams assemblages. The analysis of the planktonic foraminifera also shows a prediction of the age, resulted the study area is deposited since Cenozoic era.
