Description
Magistrska naloga dokazuje, da so mizoginija, seksizem in zatiranje žensk še vedno prisotni, na kar opozarjata avtorici v knjigah »Only Ever Yours« in »Мојот маж«, čeprav smo v družbi do neke mere dosegli enakopravnost. This master thesis deals with the comparison of two literary works that were published in 2014. While analysing the books, I came to the conclusion that both authors deal with radical feminism marked by biological essentialism. This finding is supported by examples from the books. In the short introduction of the thesis, the basic feminist strands are presented. The practical part of the thesis consists of the analysis and comparison of examples of different types of female oppression found in the above-mentioned books. In the Macedonian short stories, the main reason for female oppression is the return of patriarchy and its traditional values, which were not present when Macedonia was a part of Yugoslavia. Institutional patriarchy was reintroduced because of capitalism. The author presents the reality for women in Macedonian society in a manner that shows how they are expected to be nothing but mothers and housewives and depend on their husbands. The Irish novel portrays a fictional dystopian society, a post-apocalyptic world where women are nothing but breeding machines they are illiterate and forced to obey the rules of a patriarchal world led by men. This master thesis proves that even though some level of equality for women has been reached, misogyny, sexism and female oppression are still present, and the books Only Ever Yours and Mojot maž point that out.
