Description
Summary:V magistrskem delu proučujem potrebe starih ljudi v občini Železniki. V začetnem delu najprej predstavim staranje populacije in obstoječe možnosti oskrbe starih ljudi. Skušala sem ugotoviti, kakšne so njihove potrebe, katere so najbolj in katere najmanj zadovoljene. S kvalitativnimi intervjuji sem ugotavljala, kaj stari ljudje pogrešajo v občini Železniki in katere možnosti dolgotrajne oskrbe poznajo. This master’s thesis studies the needs of the elderly in the municipality of Železniki. In the first part, I present the aging of the population and the existing care options for the elderly. Then I describe the needs of old people, the index and dimension of needs and the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. I also define social work with the elderly and different municipalities, their attitude towards the elderly and the challenges of aging that the municipality of Železniki faces. For the empirical part I conducted twelve interviews with elderly people from the aforementioned municipality. I tried to find out what their needs were and which ones were the most/least met. Through qualitative interviews I found out what they are missing in the municipality of Železniki and what long-term care options they know of. I was interested in where they see the problems in the care provision for the elderly, what kind of care they want in the future and what solutions they suggest to improve the needs provision of the elderly. The research showed that the field of work meets most of their needs and the field housing adaptation meets least of their needs. Few of the elderly know all the possibilities of formal care. Most of them however see the problems with institutional care, as the municipality of Železniki does not have a nursing home yet, while other homes in the surrounding area have a long waiting period for admission. The elderly want to be helped in meeting basic physiological needs in home care and in a nursing home as well when home care would no longer be possible. What they also want is the financial accessibility and affordability of home care. They suggest organized help with their basic needs: chores, transportation, escorting and self-care. The main suggestions stemming from the research are to make people more informed about existing care options, to help them adapt their living quarters accordingly, to offer the option of an advocate and to arrange more flexible transport options. Meetings, events and information technology courses should also be organized. Young people should also be taught about the aging process. It is also suggested that a service be set up to help elderly people living alone in organizing joint life with others.
