Summary:In her paper Sabina Jelenc tackles the importance of critical thinking, focusing on the development of this process in adulthood. Jelenc underlines the growing emphasis on the initiative and activity of individuals, who are expected to assume full responsibility for their lives, and should themselves introduce changes in their environment. Critical thinking is only one of the demands that have to be met in order to achieve the above goal. Critical thinking is particularly important in knowledge acquisition - in learning social and communication skills as well as in developing personality traits and behaviour, which are mastered through various contexts. As individuals gradually become more independent and critical, the quality of their learning improves, thus adding greater depth to the knowledge acquired. V prispevku avtorica razmišlja o pomenu kritičnega mišljenja. Omeji se predvsem na razvijanje tega procesa v obdobju odraslosti. Opaža, da čedalje bolj poudarjajo iniciativnost in aktivnost posameznikov , ki naj bi sprejeli polno odgovornost za svoje življenje in sami spreminjali svoje okolje. Kritično mišljenje je le ena od zahtev, ki mora biti izpolnjena za dosego tega cilja. Še posebej je namreč pomembno pri sprejemanju novega znanja, razvijanju socialnih, komunikacijskih spretnosti in oblikovanju osebnostnih lastnosti ter spreminjanju vedenja. Bolj kot postajajo posamezniki samostojni in kritični, bolj je kvalitetno tudi njihovo učenje, ki tako dobiva poleg širine tudi globino.
