| Summary: | The article is devoted to analysis of the very special ethnic minority which live in northern part of Scandinavia. The consideration is focused on the relationship between identity, culture and education. The various historical and contemporary approaches of politicians and governments towards the Saami are taken into account. Also, the various possibilities of Saami Peoples identification with culture and language are considered. The author concludes that there is no simple answer for the problem of Saami plays in contemporary reality, especially in the context of necessity to make a choice between their own traditional identity and living in highly industrial society. Artykuł poświęcony jest analizie polityki edukacyjnej wobec mniejszości Saami, zamieszkującej od tysięcy lat północną część Skandynawii. Główny nacisk położony jest na relacje pomiędzy tożsamością, kulturą i edukacją. Podjęto również próbę nakreślenia historycznych i współczesnych podejść do problemu mniejszości w edukacji - w kontekście politycznym. Autor dostrzega, iż nie ma prostych odpowiedzi i rozwiązań wobec problemu tradycyjnych mniejszości we współczesnej rzeczywistości — w szczególności w aspekcie wyboru pomiędzy tradycyjnymi wartościami i tożsamością a sposobami funkcjonowania w nowoczesnym społeczeństwie.
