Summary:Winter census of Wildfowl and Shorebirds in Mallorca and Eivissa/ Formentera, January 2001. Over 14.587 individuals belonging to 58 species have been recorded from 65 localities belonging to the islands of Mallorca, Eivissa and Formentera. A new species has been added to the list, the Whimbrel, Numenius phaeopus. In Mallorca there is a marked increase in Ardeidae and decrease in Coots Fulica atra and diving ducks. In Eivissa the numbers of Greater Flamingoes Phoenicopterus ruber are the same as in the year 2000, and in Formentera there is a decrease in Black-necked Grebe, Podiceps nigricollis.
