Description
Summary:This study aims to understand the importance of the successful Nordic welfare state on the exceptional happiness of the region (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) in the World Happiness Report published by the UN. The methodology consists of extensive theoretical and empirical research on the Nordic model and the exceptionality of their countries in several indicators, in order to verify possible relations between them, as well of statistical analyses and regressions by OLS method with cross-sectional data - mainly from the World Happiness Report, OECD and the World Bank for a sample of 45 countries in 2017. The determinants considered were natural logarithm of GDP per capita, unemployment, social public spending, investment in health, investment in education, democracy, gender parity and peace. The results corroborate the hypothesis of the existence of relevance of Nordic policies (social spending, investment in health and education) on their effective exceptionality in the report.
