Summary: | Nothofagidites tehuelchesii n. sp. is described from Patagonic deposits. It belongs to the Nothofagus menziesii type, and is distinguished from Nothofagidites asperus (Cookson) by its smaller size and from Nothofagidites americanus Zamoloa by its larger spines. It includes South American specimens previously described as Nothofagidites sp. and N. cf. asperus (pro parte). The new species has a known range from Late Eocene to Early Miocene. © 1992.
