Summary:Cycle 15 of the General Social Survey (GSS) is the third cycle to collect detailed information on family life in Canada. The previous GSS cycles that collected family data were Cycles 5 and 10. Topics include demographic characteristics such as age, sex, and marital status; family origin of parents; brothers and sisters; marriages of respondent; common-law unions of respondent; fertility and family intentions; values and attitudes; education history; work history; main activity and other characteristics. The target population for Cycle 15 of the GSS is all persons 15 years of age and older in Canada, excluding residents of the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, and full-time residents of institutions. NOTE Thursday, July 28, 2005 Cycle 15. Corrections to the Analytical(C15ANALM) and the Public Main files(C15PUMFM). After revising the SAS code used to derive the variable AGEPR_OPER in the Fertility and family intentions, a programming error was detected and corrected. Corrections to the Public Children files(C15PUMFC). After revising the SAS code used to derive the variables DAYS_CHDOPAR_L12M and DAYS_CCRQ110_L12M in the Children section, programming errors were detected and corrected. Note: This product repeats the core content of the 1990 and 1995 General Social Survey. This product is accompanied by the General Social Survey cycle 15: family history (2001) - Public use microdata file documentation and user's guide (catalogue no. 12M0015GPE). MAIN DATA FILE REPLACED 6 JULY 2004 NO_STU A programming error in the derivation of NO_STU was detected and corrected Also, the variable in the previous PUMF excluded the very first schooling period (the ED0 questions). Thus, the variable was missing one schooling period for everybody except those with no schooling. The variable was modified so that it provides the total number of schooling periods.
