Description
Summary:Solo exhibition. Glacial Shift is a solo exhibition of the aritst's work sited within the galleries of Scott Polar Research Institute. Large scale drawings in watercolour and graphite, chalk on prepared paper, and woodcut are sited alongside the museum's permanent collection. Working with the assistance of glaciologists Dr Giles Brown (University of Bristol) and Dr Iain Willis (University of Cambridge) the artist responds to the rapidly changing Alpine landscape. Part of Stibbon’s concern is with the impact of tourism on the landscape and glacial retreat accelerated by climate change. As Stibbon points out ‘recent scientific research shows the glaciers in the Swiss Alps will have largely disappeared by 2050 and completely disappeared by 2100. What we now see as a white peaks will soon be a much darker horizon.’ The exhibition is curated by Dr Huw Lewis-Jones
