Summary: | The village of Vilhelmina in South Lapland, Sweden is declining. Despite the general trend of urbanization more and more people are leaving Vilhelmina which have resulted in economic insecurity and a disassembly of basic public services and buildings. With new global trends like globalization, digitalization and global heating, this could potentially be changed and the thesis aims to investigate a scenario where small interventions and a long-term strategy could generate new economies, activities or connections with the means of incremental urban design. Sensitive design is key whereas the project pays extra attention in mapping the local culture, landscape, climate, heritage of the Sámi and life and living that goes on in Vilhelmina today. What interventions are needed to change the development and what could they look like to enhance quality of life in Vilhelmina?
