Description
Summary:Regional enlargement was used as a reason to build the Bothnia Line railway along the cost in northern Sweden. In turn, enlargement of a region would provide opportunities for more regional growth. The basic conditions required for this enlargement are accessibility and mobility. Without neither, desired results would not occur. This thesis aims to establish if trains for commuting on the Bothnia Line has contributed to regional enlargement by investigating the accessibility and mobility within the region. Accessibility is studied by examining how the potential for using the railway looks like and mobility is examined by looking at the actual usage of the railway. The study has been performed with quantitative analyses of data containing ticket information and data from two surveys. This data has been compiled and analysed using the computer program Excel. Analyses shows that the public's accessibility to trains is sufficient but can be improved. By analysing to what extent the public are using the trains, results showed that the trains are used more and more. Trains are mostly being used in highly populated cities, with the reason for travelling by train being connected with regional enlargement.
