| Summary: | Norway is one of the best countries in the world when it comes to gender equality, ranking in second place only behind Iceland in the 2018 Global Gender Gap Report. The film industry, however, is and has always been dominated by men, and change in this field has been quite slow—at least until the last decade. Operating in a small country, with 5.3 million inhabitants in 2019, the industry is dependent on public funding, and it is through public policies and measures that initiatives towards gender equality have been implemented. In this chapter I will try to shed some light on the development of gender equality within the Norwegian film industry. |
