| Summary: | Talisker (SAMS Seaglider 156) was deployed west of Tiree on 3 May 2011 to undertake a survey of the Rockall Trough and Iceland Basin approximately following the route of the Extended Ellett Line. She was equipped with a Seabird CTD, Seabird SBE 43F and Aanderaa Optode oxygen sensors as well as a Wetlabs fluorometer with red and blue backscatter sensors. Before recovery on 3 September 2011 she had made 841 dives, travelled from Scotland to Iceland and on into Faroese waters. By then she had covered over 2290 km. The original programme was intended to end with a repeated crossing of the southern end of the Faroe-Shetland Channel but this part had to be abandoned because Talisker had to be recovered from sea by the FRV Magnus Heinason when the battery pack started to fail. The mission was thus a partial success, and demonstrated the ability of a Seaglider to survey the Extended Ellett Line in summer. |
