Summary:Two sedges Carex bigelowii TORR. ex SCHWEINITZ subsp. rigida SCHULZE-MOTEL and Carex vaginata TAUSCH formerly considered extinct were rediscovered on Mt. Brocken in the German Harz Mountains. Their taxonomy, nomenclature, distribution, local history and local and general phytosociology are discussed as well as the site conditions were they were found.
