Summary:The study will provide critical empirical field based constraints of the vertical extent of the Patagonian Ice Sheet over the last glacial cycle. In-situ produced terrestrial cosmogenic nuclides 10Be and 26Al are used to date the surface exposure of erratic boulders and/or bedrock on high altitude ridges/summits (500-2000 m.a.s.l.). This will yield age-elevation correlations, rates of ice surface lowering, and volumetric configurations of the Patagonian Ice Sheet at 49°S over the last glacial cycle. The data will feed into palaeoclimatic reconstructions of Patagonia, southern South America.
