Description
Summary:The collection of the Museu Oceanográfico D. Carlos I is a historical specimen, instrument and document collection that has been housed at the Aquário Vasco da Gama since 1935. The ornithological collection is made up of 189 surviving records, consisting of mounted specimens and eggs. All specimens were caught in Portugal, except for the two Polysticta stelleri (Pallas, 1769) specimens, offered to D. Carlos I by Edward VII of the United Kingdom. The specimens were captured between 1888 and 1906, as part of the king's hunting parties and oceanographic campaigns.
