26-Al is produced by spallation-reactions of the cosmioc radiation on atmospheric argon. In an irradiation experiment at PSI the average global atmospheric production rate was determined to 0,69 26-Al-atoms per square meter and second. 26-Al is also brought into the atmosphere by interplanetary dust. With measurements on antarctic ice samples the total deposition rate at the south pole was determined to 1,1 +- 0,5 26-Al-atoms per square meter and second. For the global mass influx of interplanetary dust an upper limit of 79 kt per year was found. |
