Pendant des décennies, il fut donc impossible d’aller mener une enquête de terrain chez les peuples sibériens qui y sont établis. Dans cette région de l’Arctique vivent en effet les Nganassanes (849 individus au recensement de 1989), les Enètses (103) et des Nénètses (2 446 à Taïmyr, 34 190 en Russie) qui tous trois appartiennent à l’ensemble nord‑samoyède. The Dymyr peninsula is one of the most remote places in Russia and until 1991 was hermetically closed to foreigners. For decades, it was therefore impossible to carry out a field survey of the Siberian peoples established there. In this Arctic region, the Nganassanes (849 individuals in the 1989 census), the Enètses (103) and the Nenetses (2 446 in the Russian Federation, 34 190 in Russia), all three of whom belong to the North Samoyd area.
