| Summary: | In many textbooks and books, the history of the First World War is still dominated by a focus on land battles. The maritime dimension, too often dismissed, is often only approached through the narrow prism of the clashes in the North Sea or the North Atlantic. Although the Mediterranean basin was relatively safe during the conflict, it was not entirely spared by the war and played host to confrontations between the Franco-British fleets of the Entente and the Austro-Hungarian and German fleets of the Triple Alliance. From the beginning of the conflict and in the years that followed, the Great War in the Mediterranean was the object of numerous publications. This article aims to outline some historiographical milestones on war in the Mediterranean, which remains an almost forgotten aspect in France. à travers les nombreux manuels scolaires et ouvrages, l’histoire de la première guerre mondiale demeure encore surtout dominée par l’aspect terrestre des batailles. La dimension maritime, trop souvent écarté, n’est souvent abordée qu’à travers le prisme étroit des affrontements en mer du Nord ou ceux se déroulant en Atlantique Nord. Si le bassin méditerranéen est relativement sûr durant le conflit, il n’est pas totalement épargné par la guerre et va constituer également un théâtre d’affrontements opposant les flottes franco-britanniques de l’Entente à celles des flottes austro-hongroises et allemandes de la Triple Alliance. Dès le début du conflit et dans les années qui vont suivre, la Grande Guerre dans l’espace méditerranéen a fait l’objet de nombreuses publications. Cet article a pour ambition de poser quelques jalons historiographiques d’une guerre en Méditerranée presque oubliée en France.
