Summary: | The aim of the article is to assess the security of Eastern European countries in the aspect of threats coming from Russia. The article assesses the strategic challenges facing NATO and indicates the desired directions for NATO's adaptation to changing international conditions. The thesis is aimed at demonstrating that Russia's imperial policy aims to revise the international order established after the end of the Cold War and to rebuild its sphere of influence. The importance of NATO is strictly dependent on the development of relations between the US and their European allies, as well as on the balance of power elsewhere in the world. The accession of some Central and Eastern European countries to the Alliance has become a very important factor affecting their security. It strengthened their position in relations with other countries, in particular with Russia, and also contributed to reducing tensions in bilateral relations (e.g. between Hungary and Slovakia, Hungary and Romania, as well as Poland and Lithuania), playing a stabilizing and preventive role. The conducted research indicates that the accession of Central and Eastern European countries to the North Atlantic Alliance had a huge impact on the security of the region. NATO has now become one of the most important determinants of confidence in the military and political sphere thanks to the guarantees that it guarantees and through the interests pursued by them. Celem artykułu jest ocena bezpieczeństwa państw Europy Wschodniej w obliczu zagrożeń płynących ze strony Federacji Rosyjskiej (FR). W artykule dokonano oceny wyzwań strategicznych jakie stoją przed Organizacją Traktatu Północnoatlantyckiego (NATO) oraz wskazano na pożądane kierunki adaptacji NATO do zmieniających się uwarunkowań bezpieczeństwa międzynarodowego, szczególnie w odniesieniu do obszaru Europy Wschodniej.
