Polish arctic policy in the aspect of national security

The article presents an assessment of the Polish Arctic policy in the aspect of national security, referring to the justification of the Polish presence in the Arctic for strategic documents. The current Polish involvement in the Arctic is presented, including as a signatory of the Spitsbergen Treaty (Paris), activity in international structures, including as an observer in the Arctic Council. The importance of Polish Arctic research for the legitimacy of the Polish presence in the Arctic was emphasized. They pointed to Polish political and economic projects in the Arctic. Polish military involvement in the area of NATO’s defense readiness, including in the northern format, has been presented. The increase in political tension caused by Russia’s political and military provocations in the Arctic at the turn of recent years was emphasized. Attention was drawn to the increase of the political, economic and military importance of the Arctic Ocean basin, especially in the context of dynamic climate change. W artykule przedstawiono ocenę polskiej polityki arktycznej w aspekcie bezpieczeństwa narodowego odnosząc uzasadnienie polskiej obecności w Arktyce do dokumentów strategicznych. Przedstawiono dotychczasowe zaangażowanie polskie w Arktyce, w tym jako sygnatariusza Traktatu Spitsbergeńskiego (Paryskiego), aktywność w strukturach międzynarodowych, w tym jako obserwatora w Radzie Arktycznej. Podkreślono znaczenie polskich badań arktycznych dla legitymizacji polskiej obecności w Arktyce. Wskazano na polskie projekty polityczne i gospodarcze w Arktyce. Przedstawiono polskie zaangażowanie wojskowe i militarne w obszarze podnoszenia gotowości obronnej NATO, w tym północnym obszarze. Podkreślono wzrost napięcia politycznego wywołanego prowokacjami politycznymi i wojskowymi Rosji w Arktyce na przełomie ostatnich lat. Zwrócono uwagę na wzrost znaczenia politycznego, gospodarczego i militarnego obszaru basenu Oceanu Arktycznego, zwłaszcza w sytuacji dynamicznych zmian klimatycznych.
