The Ndakinna is the traditional territory of the Abenaki. The Abenaki or « People of the dawn » are the southernmost Algonquiian First Nation of the province of Quebec. Since 2013, the Ndakinna Office has been mandated by the Councils of the Abenaki of Odanak and Wôlinak to conduct territorial consultations. In order to achieve this, the Office employs archaeology within many projects related to land management and for the affirmation of the traditional territory of the W8banaki Nation. For the Ndakinna Office, archaeology is a powerful tool for self-determination, as well as a means for protecting and managing the ecosystems that are essential to the Nation, documenting historic W8banakiak sites and patterns of land use, and to extert scientific influence through outreach . Le Ndakinna est le territoire ancestral de la nation w8banaki. Les W8banakiak, « gens du pays de l’aube » ou « ceux qui vivent au levant », forment la Première Nation algonquienne la plus au sud du Québec. Depuis 2013, le Bureau du Ndakinna est mandaté par le Conseil des Abénakis d’Odanak et le Conseil des Abénakis de Wôlinak pour répondre aux consultations territoriales. Afin d’y parvenir, le Bureau utilise notamment l’archéologie dans divers projets de gestion et d’affirmation sur le territoire ancestral w8banaki. Que ce soit au sujet de la protection et de la gestion d’écosystèmes indispensables pour la nation w8banaki, de la documentation des schémas et des sites historiques w8banakiak d’occupation du territoire ou du rayonnement scientifique, l’archéologie au sein du Bureau du Ndakinna représente un puissant véhicule d’autodétermination pour la Nation w8banaki. Ndakinna es el territorio ancestral de la nación w8banaki. Los W8banakiak, “gente del país del amanecer” o “los que viven en el levante”, forman la Primera Nación algonquina más meridional de Quebec.
