Summary:How to get pupils to acquire the capacity of writing texts ? How to allow them to develop scriptural competencies ? It is a major objective for the teaching of a language, which “should be the business of all teachers in a school, since the crucial role [that scriptural competency] plays in the learning process and in allowing one to thrive socially” (Lord, 2009, p. 3).Our article has the ambition to demonstrate the effects of two systems that aim to promote acquiring scriptural competency for children in the third cycle of primary school (10 – 12 years): le chantier d’écriture (Jolibert, 1988) and l’atelier d’écriture (Bing, 1983; Boniface, 1992; Lafont-Terranova, 2009; Niwese, 2010).To do this, first we develop what we understand with “scriptural competency” within the process of producing texts in primary school. Secondly, we define the two methods in an isolated manner and thereafter we will bring them together to evaluate their similarities and their differences. Thirdly, we define the questions and hypotheses for our research, the methodological aspects and we present the tools for gathering data. Fourthly, the results will be analysed in order to show the strengths and weaknesses of both methods. Finally, we will conclude by going back to our research hypotheses and questions. We will express how we have answered them in order to round up, putting forward new questions. Comment faire acquérir aux élèves la capacité de rédiger des textes ?
