Summary:This paper provides the first results of pollen analysis and geological studies in the Lapao 2 profile (1400-1800 cal. AD) located in the town of Susques, Province of Jujuy, Argentina. The purpose of this research is to characterize the environmental setting in which human groups evolved during the last 400 years in the Dry Puna Argentina, where archaeological evidence has been found on the site Puesto Demetria. The preliminary results of the pollen analyzes indicate initially a mixed steppe vegetation (Tolar-Pajonal) similar to the present, though more unstable, followed by a brief period of expansion of the “vega” (increased local humidity conditions), and subsequent recovery and setting the mixed steppe although more stable than the initial period. Meanwhile, sedimentological analyzes indicate wetter initially followed by a more arid, similar to that detected for the same chronology in other town in the Andes as Sajama Ice Cap in Bolivia and Quelccaya Ice Cap in Perú. This sequence could represent the local expresión of the Little Ice Age in particular areas such as the Quebrada Seca Lapao in Puna Argentina. Fil: Oxman, Brenda I.
