Summary:current John is an Associate Professor in the Tourism Management Programme. In 1998, John completed his Ph D. in tourism geography at McGill University in Montreal. His present research addresses many aspects of sustainable tourism in peripheral regions with a specific focus on community-based tourism development. Additional research interests include: mountain tourism, health and wellness tourism, creative tourism, polar tourism, culinary tourism, cruise tourism, and nature-based tourism. John has worked on tourism projects in North America, Europe, the Middle East, South America, Africa, and Asia. Past clients include the UNWTO, UNCBD, UNEP, UNESCO, World Bank, Nordic Council, European Tourism Research Institute, Commission on Environmental Cooperation, Canadian Tourism Commission, Tourism Atlantic, and Parks Canada. John is presently a visiting professor at the University College of Southern Norway, Kongsberg, Norway, the Harz University of Applied Sciences, Wernigerode, Germany and he is a member of the New Zealand Tourism Research Institute (NZTRI), New Zealand. He is also a member of the Sonnino Working Group, Italy, a research group focused on food and wine tourism. He has worked as a visiting professor at the University of Trento, Italy, MCI Innsbruck, Austria, and at the Icelandic Tourism Research Centre, Akureyri, Iceland.
