Opinnäytetyön toimeksiantajana toimi pietarsaarelainen arktinen museo Nanoq ja museonjohtaja Pentti Kronqvist. Kronqvist on itse tehnyt useita matkoja arktisille aluille. Hän on sieltä tullessaan tuonut mukanaan niin arktisten alueiden kansojen esineistöä, kuin tietoa ja kokemuksia elämästä pohjoisilla alueilla. Näin Nanoqiin on kertynyt näyttelyaineisto, joka kattaa laajasti arktisten kansojen kulttuurin, hylkeenpyyntivälineistä taiteeseen ja asuinrakennuksiin. Työn aiheena oli tehdä Nanoq-museolle opasvihko, jonka avulla museovieraat voivat kiertää museota omaan tahtiin. Tavoitteena oli tehdä kätevä, selkeä ja helppolukuinen opasvihko suomen-, ruotsin- ja englanninkielellä. Museolla oli ennestään tavallinen esite, muttei tällaista kattavaa opasvihkoa. Opinnäytetyössä opiskeltiin julkaisun tekoa teoriassa ja opittiin toteuttamaan se käytännössä. Työtä tehdessä tutustuttiin niin muutamaan kuvankäsittelyohjelmaan kuin taitto-ohjemaankin. Lisäksi tehtiin benchmarking-tutkimus, jossa valmista Nanoq-opasta verrattiin norjalaisen Polar-museon vastaavanlaiseen opasvihkoon. Polar-museoon otettiin sähköpostitse yhteyttä. Sieltä lähetettiin postin välityksellä museon esite ja opasvihko. Opinnäytetyöprosessin keskeisin tavoite oli tuottaa opasvihko, josta on hyötyä Nanoqille. Pietarsaaren muilla museoilla ei tällaisia opasvihkoja ole, joten Nanoq-opas on ainutlaatuinen. Tavoitteessa onnistuttiin kiitettävästi ja tulokseen oltiin erittäin tyytyväisiä. The supervisor of this thesis was the Arctic museum of Nanoq in Pietarsaari and the director of the museum Pentti Kronqvist. Kronqvist himself has made many trips to the arctic regions. He has come back with different articles, knowledge and experiences about life in the Arctics. This way the museum of Nanoq has got a large collection on arctic culture. The aim of this thesis was to produce a guide for the museum of Nanoq. With this guide the visitors of the museum could tour around the area by themselves. The aim was to do a handy and clear guide which would be easy to read and follow. The guide would be in Finnish and translated also into Swedish and English. The museum already had a basic brochure, but not this kind of exhaustive guide. By producing a publication when making this thesis, theory was learned and put into practice too. During the process a few image processing programs, as well as layout programs, were tested. Also a benchmarking research was done in this thesis. The Nanoq-guide was compared to a guide of the Norwegian Polar Museum. An e-mail was sent to the Polar museum and they answered by sending a brochure and their guide via traditional post. The main aim of this thesis was to produce a guide which would be useful for the museum of Nanoq. The other museums in Pietarsaari do not have guides, so the Nanoq-guide is unique. The target was achieved and the result was successful.
