| Summary: | Opinnäytetyöni aiheena on vertailu suomalais- ja ruotsalaisnuorten alkoholin käytöstä. Tutkimuskysely on tehty viidessä eri kunnassa Tornionjokilaaksossa Suomen ja Ruotsin puolella. Nämä kunnat ovat Pello, Ylitornio ja Tornio Suomen puolelta ja Övertorneå ja Haaparanta Ruotsin puolelta. Kyselyn nuoret ovat yläkoulun 7-9 luokkalaisia. Kyselyssä kysyttiin nuorilta ovatko he kokeilleet alkoholia, alkoholimäärää, käyttötiheyttä, kuinka usein he juovat itsensä erittäin humalaan, mistä he alkoholia saavat, ovatko he itse ostaneet alkoholia, ovatko he kokeilleet sekakäyttöä, missä, mitä ja miksi he juovat. Tilastollinen tutkimus sopii parhaiten tilastoitavan tiedon hankkimiseen, joten siksi käytin sitä työssäni. Tiedonhankintamenetelmäksi valitsin valmiit eli strukturoidut ja muutaman avoimen kysymyksen saadakseni helposti tilastoitavaa aineistoa. Kyselyyn nuoret vastasivat nimettöminä. Tutkimuksen nuoret täyttivät kyselyn ollessaan koulussa. Tutkimustulosten mukaan molempien maiden nuoret käyttävät alkoholia runsaasti. Huomattavia eroja ei maiden välillä ole, mutta sukupuolten välillä on eroja mm. siinä kuinka paljon ja kuinka usein juodaan. Suomalaisnuoret juovat itsensä useammin erittäin humalaan entä ruotsalaisnuoret. Molemmissa maissa nuoret saivat alkoholia kavereiltaan ja olivat ostaneet alkoholia. Sekä ruotsalais- että suomalaisnuoret joivat yleisimmin mietoja alkoholijuomia. Kummankin maan tytöt joivat yleensä kavereidensa luona ja pojat kylällä tai kaupungilla. Suurin osa nuorista kertoi juovansa alkoholia siksi, koska se on hauskaa, mutta myös koska sen avulla he kokevat voivansa rentoutua. Opinnäytetyöni tuloksia voivat hyödyntää paikalliset nuorisotyöntekijät, mutta myös kaikki ne, joita nuorten alkoholin käyttö kiinnostaa. Nuorten alkoholin käyttö on vakava asia, johon kaikkien aikuisten ja nuorten parissa työskentelevien on puututtava. The title of my thesis was the comparison of alcohol use among Finnish and Swedish young people. Research of my study was done in five different municipalities of The Torne River Valley in Finland and Sweden. These municipalities were Pello, Ylitornio and Tornio in Finland Övertorneå and Haparanda in Sweden. The survey was held for young people aged 13 to 15 years old at secondary schools around the municipalities chosen. Questions asked in the survey were following; have you tried alcohol? How much alcohol do you drink when drinking? How often do you use alcohol and do you binge drink? Where do you normally get the alcohol? Have you bought alcohol yourself? Have you ever tried the mixed use of substances? Where do you normally drink? What do you drink? Why do you drink? Statistical study is the most suitable for making statistics so that is why I chose to use this method in my study. In order to get answers which are easily compiled statistics I chose structured and a couple of open-ended questions. The questionnaire was anonymous and young people took part of it at school. According to the research results youth in both countries use a lot of alcohol. There were not remarkable differences of alcohol use between the countries, but amount of drinking and frequency of use differed between the genders. Finnish young people binge drink more often than their peers in Sweden. In both of the countries young people had got alcohol from their friends and they have bought alcohol themselves. Both Swedish and Finnish young people drunk mostly mild alcohol when they were drinking. Girls in both countries drunk mainly when they were visiting their friends and the boys drunk while they were out in the town. Most of the young people taking part of this study told they drunk because drinking is funny and because by drinking they feel they can relax. The results of my study can be utilised, not only by local youth workers, but also by everyone interested in the study of young people’s drinking habits and usage. Young people’s alcohol misuse is a matter that needs to be taken seriously by all adults and especially by people working with them. People should be aware of the matter and intervene with it.
