Description
Summary:Boreal forests are a subject of intensive silvicultural use, even if their geographical location seems to be peripheral. Two primary questions have been discussed to assess the local climatological relevance of clear-cuts in boreal forests, near the Oulanka Nationalpark in northern Finland. The first task is an inventory of local climatological changes due to silvicultural impacts. The measurements have been carried out at three sites of typical successional stages during the vegetation periods of 1999 and 2000. Secondly eighteen modelling approaches for abiotic risks have been evaluated with regard to their spatial transferability. In this case air temperature, frost distribution and also wind hazard are examined with consideration of their requirements on climatological data and spatial information.
