Description
Summary:Since the 1950s, clear-cutting has been the dominant way of managing the Swedish forest. This has resulted in even aged forests and denser stands that have a negative impact on the distribution of terrestrial lichens. As a result, it has consequences for the reindeer husbandry, as the main food for the reindeer during the winter consists of terrestrial lichen, such as Cladonia spp. By this, it is important to identify the occurrence of terrestrial lichens today and where it existed. This study has examined how well a model-based map matches field material collected for Sirges Reindeer husbandry plan 2004. It has also been studied whether the model-based map could be improved, by including both field inventory data and laser scanning data into the modeling process. The results showed that there was correlation in all analyzes, but with different precisions. Highest precision was found in the model-based map with laser data included in the modeling process. A map of the presence of terrestrial lichen in a landscape perspective is a basis that can, and should, be used in consultations between Sami villages and the forest industry to increase the understanding of the distribution of terrestrial lichens, and in the long run improve consideration.
