Summary:After the volcano eruption in Katla 1918 the coastline by the town of Vík í Mýrdal accreted about 500 to 600 m, until 1971. From then the coastline has erode about 350-450 m and is today about the same as it was prior the eruption. A part of the town is close to the today's coastline and a solution for the erosion is needed to prevent further erosion. In this thesis the sediment transport is estimated with the Litpack model (by DHI-group). The directional equilibrium of Vík's coast is estimated and the water depth where the sediment transport occur is estimated. The theories of spiral form coastline and equilibrium profile is introduced and possible coastline estimated.
