| Summary: | Í þessari ritgerð er fjallað um synjunarvald eða 26. gr. stjórnarskrárinnar. Í stuttu máli er það valdið sem forseti íslands hefur til þess að synja lagafrumvarpi og koma því í hendur þjóðarinnar sem tekur ákvörðun um hvort eigi að synja eða samþykkja lagafrumvarpið. Farið verður yfir upphaf stjórnarskráarinnar til dagsins í dag og upphafið á synjunarvaldinu til dagsins í dag. Að auki verður fjallað um hvort einhverjir forsetar hafi notast við synjunarvaldið og þá hverjir. Út frá því eru forsetarnir skoðaðir sem hafa verið við völd þegar synjunarvaldinu hefur verið beitt og hvaða mál átti í hlut. This thesis discusses the power of veto or Article 26 of the Icelandic Constitution. Explained in a brief way, Article 26 is about the power that the President of Iceland has to veto a bill and submit it to the nation, who then make the decision on whether to veto or approve the bill. The beginning of the Constitution and veto to the present day will be reviewed in this thesis. In addition, it will be discussed whether any presidents have used the veto power and if so, which ones. From this, we take a further look at the presidents who have been in power when the veto power has been used and what issue was involved.
