Description
Summary:This project aims to design a community center in Iceland that fosters social inclusion and integration of refugees. The center combines a library with various spaces for communal activities, such as a day care center and a garden. The design follows the principles of the Ikigai framework to ensure that the center fulfills the needs of both the refugees and the local community. This framework focuses on four elements: what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. By using this framework, the project ensures that the center is a space where people can learn, connect, and contribute to society. One of the key features of the community center is its circular design, which encourages people to interact with each other and build relationships. The center also includes spaces where parents can participate in communal activities while their children are in the day care center. This creates a circle of security, where parents can learn new skills and build relationships while their children are being cared for. The project also emphasizes the importance of creating a space that does not separate refugees from the local community. The inclusion of a library in the center aims to attract locals to the building and encourages them to use the communal spaces. By creating a space that is welcoming to all, the project hopes to promote social cohesion and break down barriers between different communities. Rannis
