description | Megintilgangur þessarar rannsóknar var að kanna hvort svarendur í könnun veiti réttar upplýsingar þegar þeir eru spurðir um breytingar á viðhorfum þeirra og skoðunum yfir tíma. This research study aimed to examine whether respondents in a survey provide accurate information when asked about changes in their attitudes and opinions over time. A stratified sample of 1,139 participants was recruited from the online panel of the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) of the University of Iceland, who had already answered three of the institute‘s national surveys. A final sample of the current study was a total of 817 respondents. The questionnaire was developed from these three previous surveys with additional change questions generated by the researcher. The results showed that the minority of the respondents were able to recall their past attitudes correctly, people with positive attitudes and no observed change in their attitudes had a tendency to wrongly believe that their attitudes had become more positive over time, and people with negative attitudes and no observed change in their attitudes had a tendency to wrongly believe that their attitudes had become more negative over time.
