Description
Summary:Objectives: To evaluate the effects of the fiber supplement LipoSan Ultra on (1) cardiorespiratory endurance, (2) fat utilization, (3) lactic acid (LA) production and recovery in selected athlete population groups, and (4) look at the potential relationship between these factors. Methods: 60 healthy and physically active individuals (29 males and 31 females), 18-50 years old, were randomly assigned to an intervention group (n=31) or control group (n=29). The intervention group consumed a daily dose of 2.25 g of LipoSan Ultra, whereas the control group consumed placebo capsules for 8-15 weeks. VO2max and LA measures were carried out pre- and post-intervention period. Repeated measures ANOVA test was used to analyze the difference between groups, and relationships between the factors were tested with Pearson correlation. Results: One significant difference was found between the groups; decreased VO2max in the intervention group (F(1,57) = 4.81, p = .032). A positive correlation was found between few variables; LA post-test and LA recovery (r = .58), VO2max and RER=1.0 (r = .53), fat utilization and RER=1.0 (r = .47), fat utilization and VO2max (r = .35), and a negative correlation between fat utilization and LA recovery (r = -.36). Conclusion: The study does not support previous studies indicating that chitosan and fiber supplements can increase endurance among athletes. The decrease in VO2max may have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and further research is needed. However, few participants in the intervention group reported improved digestion, and no significant adverse reactions occurred, suggesting that this fiber supplement can be safely used as compensation for the lack of fiber consumption in Iceland and commonly impaired digestion in athletes. Markmið: Að meta áhrif trefjabætiefnisins LipoSan Ultra á (1) hjarta- og öndunarþol, (2) fitunýtingu, (3) mjólkursýruframleiðslu og endurheimt hjá íþróttafólki og (4) skoða hugsanlegt samband milli þessara þátta. Aðferð: Þátttakendur voru 60 heilbrigðir ...
