Ferðaþjónustan á Íslandi er ein af mikilvægustu gjaldeyrissköpun landsins. Mikilvægt er hlúa vel að og tryggja að ferðaþjónustan nái að blómstra um ókomna tíð. Öryggismál í ferðaþjónustu er mikilvægur þáttur í því að viðhalda orðspori og hagsæld ferðaþjónustunnar hér á landi. Ferðamálastofa hefur lögbundið eftirlitshlutverk með ákveðnum rekstraraðilum í ferðaþjónustu. Ritgerð þessari er ætlað að fjalla um eftirlitshlutverk Ferðamálastofu með ferðasölum dagsferða skv. lögum nr. 96/2018 um Ferðamálastofu. Ritgerð þessi stiklar á stóru um helstu öryggiskröfur sem gilda um slíka starfsemi og hvernig eftirliti með umræddum öryggiskröfum er í raun háttað. Í lok ritgerðar verður þess freistað að draga ályktanir um það hvort að núverandi framkvæmd eftirlitsins sé til þess fallinn að tryggja nægilega framfylgni við umræddar öryggiskröfur. Tourism in Iceland is one of the country's most important creation of foreign exchange. It is important to nurture it well and ensure that the tourism industry can flourish in the future. Tourism safety and security is an important factor in maintaining the reputation and prosperity of the tourism industry in this country. The Icelandic Tourist Board Ferðamálastofa has a statutory supervisory role with certain operators in the tourism industry. This dissertation is intended to discuss the supervisory role of the Icelandic Tourist Board with day travel travel agents according to the legal stature no. 96/2018 on the Icelandic Tourist Board. This dissertation outlines the main safety requirements that apply to such activities and how the safety requirements in question are actually monitored. At the end of the dissertation, it will be tempted to draw conclusions as to whether the current supervisory practice is conducive to ensuring sufficient compliance with the safety requirements in question.
