| Summary: | Ritgerð þessi er til 30 eininga (ECT) og er lokaverkefni til MA gráðu í Safnafræði. Leiðbeinandi verkefnisins er Dr. Sigurjón Baldur Hafsteinsson prófessor í safnafræði við Félagsvísindasvið Háskóla Íslands. Ritgerðin er um sameiningu safna í Noregi, safnaumhverfið fyrir sameiningu, sameiningarferlið, söfn sem starfsvettvang eftir sameiningu og sýnileika safna í samfélaginu. Skýrslur voru skoðaðar sem gerðar voru til rannsóknar á sameiningunni, áhrif hennar á söfnin og hvernig sameiningarferlið tókst til. Mismunandi skýrslur voru skoðaðar til þess að ná heilsteyptri mynd af ferlinu. Einnig voru tekin viðtöl við átta einstaklinga á ýmsum starfsstöðum innan safnageirans í Noregi, með það fyrir augum að fá fjölbreytt og mismunandi sjónarhorn á þessa miklu breytingar. This paper qualifies as 30 ECTS units and is a dissertation for a MA degree in Museum Studies at the University of Iceland. The supervisor is Sigurjón B. Hafsteinsson, professor at the department of Social Science at the University of Iceland. In this paper, the consolidation of museums in Norway at the turn of the century is analysed. The environment and prevailing sentiment in the Norwegian museum sector, pre-consolidation, is examined as well as the massive amount of preparation and re-organization that the consolidation required. With access to reports and official documents written on the consolidation, it is possible to gauge the degree of success achieved with this undertaking and how the museum sector as a whole was affected by the change as well as individual museums. The paper is based on detailed research and interviews conducted in February of 2020 with eight individuals involved in museum work in Norway, in an attempt to present a diverse and in-depth viewpoint on the consolidation which shifted the landscape of Norwegian museums considerably and is still being hotly debated, over twenty years later.
