| Summary: | Umfjöllun þessa verks er samspil sálgæslu og helgihalds. Kannað er hvernig hægt sé að veita sálgæslu í gegnum helgihald og hvort helgihald sé hentugt tæki fyrir slíkt. Prestar og aðrir vígðir þjónar kirkjunnar eru í raun eina fagstéttin hefur helgihald sem tæki í boðun og starfi. Því er markmiðið þessa verks að kanna hvernig best sé að beita þessu tæki eins og best verður á kosið. Rýnt er í opinberar athafnir hinnar íslensku þjóðkirkju sem og störf presta og atferli í helgihaldi og sálgæslu. Rannsóknarefninu er skipt niður í þrjá hluta sem enda á niðurstöðum og lokaorðum í hinum fjórða. Í fyrri hlutunum þremur er fjallað um í eftirfarandi röð; sálgæslu, helgihald og helgisiði sem og hlutverk prestsins, og tengsl sálgæslu og helgihalds út frá opinberum athöfnum þjóðkirkjunnar sem og aðrar athafnir og möguleika til sálgæslu. This thesis focuses on the relation between pastoral care and liturgy. It explores whether it is possible to convey pastoral care through liturgy and whether the liturgy is an appropriate tool for it. The clergy is in fact the only profession which has liturgy as a method in preaching and work. It is therefore the aim of this thesis to explore the possibilities of the liturgy in relation to pastoral care. The main focus is the official ceremonies of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iceland as well as the clergy and their role in liturgy and pastoral care. The research is divided into three parts with the fourth containing conclusion and closing words. The first three chapters discuss in the following order; pastoral care, liturgy and ritual as well as the role of the pastor, and the relation between pastoral care and liturgy in regards to the official ceremonies of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iceland as well as other ceremonies and their possibilities for pastoral care.
