Summary: | In this bachelor thesis I examine the situation and participation of children of immigrant parents in after-school programs and leisure activities in Reykjavík Capital Area. As various studies have shown, the participation in after-school programs and leisure activities plays an important role in the development of children and can also be a helpful factor for integration in a new society. The main questions in my research are: How does the participation of children of immigrant parents in after-school and leisure programs look like, and what are possible obstacles and problems? What could be improved? How might different background and origin influence the view on after-school programs and leisure? As opposed to other works around the topic, here the focus is on children and families where both parents are immigrants as it is assumed that this has different effects on the participation and possible problems around after-school programs and leisure activities. My thesis is based upon a qualitative interview study that contains three in-depth interviews with three different immigrant families in Reykjavík. |
