Description
Summary:This is an analysis of my MA design thesis at the Iceland Academy of the Arts (IAA). I will be going over the theoretical part of sound that I have been researching and the design process of my project. When one thinks or speaks of sound it is of utmost importance to note that there is sound and then there is sound. Some sounds are comfortable, others are not. In our normal earthly surroundings we are constantly exposed to sounds that are affecting us in four major ways: physically, psychologically, behaviorally and cognitively. Some sounds have a good effect on us, others have an adverse effect. The amplitude and the frequency of the sound is a huge factor in how comfortably we perceive the sound and how it affects us. In this project I focus on making stuff sound better and more comfartable. I will do this in a sustainable way with shapes and forms that follow the function of the object. My project is a acoustic speaker for gadgets that are used to listen to music such as phones and tablets. When I say acoustic speaker I mean a speaker that needs no extra power source and is compatable with all and any gadget that can be used to listen to music with, no matter the brand or type and no matter when, wether it’s in the year 2017 or 2050. Unlike our digital gadgets, this speaker shall be usefull for decades to come, despite any technical changes or upgrades of our digital gadgets.
