| Summary: | Þessi greinagerð og meðfylgjandi myndabók án texta er lokaverkefni til B.Ed. gráðu við kennaradeild Háskólans á Akureyri 2015. Markmið verkefnisins er að vekja athygli á námsgildi myndabóka án texta og skapa myndabók sem endurspeglar reynsluheim barna á Íslandi. Margar myndabækur á Íslandi eru af erlendum uppruna og tengjast því ekki daglegu lífi og umhverfi íslenskra barna en skilningur á því sem við lesum byggist á reynslu og þekkingu. Greinagerðin fjallar um áhrif myndabóka á þróun læsis og málþroska barna og um námsgildi myndabóka án texta í skólastarfi í íslenskum leik- og grunnskólum. Góður málþroski og góð færni í lestri og ritun eru undirstaða náms og því eru málörvun og læsisríkt umhverfi mikilvægur þáttur í leikskólastarfi og fyrstu árin í grunnskóla. Kennsluhugmyndir byggðar á erlendum rannsóknum og reynslu erlendra kennara veita innsýn í fjölbreytta notkunarmöguleika myndabóka án texta í leik- og grunnskóla til að efla málþroska og læsi. This paper and the accompanying textless picture book are the final project towards a B.Ed. degree at the Faculty of Education at the University of Akureyri in spring 2015. The purpose of this project is to point out the educational value of textless picturebooks and create a book that tells a story which children in Iceland can relate to because when reading books the process of meaning making is build on our previous experiences and knowledge. Many picturebooks available in Iceland are coming from abroad and therefore the stories are not part of the lives and surroundings of Icelandic children. The Paper discusses the impact of picture books on children´s literacy development and story-telling and the educational value of textless picture books in kindergartens and elementary schools in Iceland. Successful language development and reading skills are the foundation for all learning and therefore children should be exposed to a literacy rich environment and activities that support language development.
