| Summary: | Ferðaþjónusta á Íslandi er mjög hratt vaxandi grein og er hestatengd ferðaþjónusta eins og náttúra Íslands stór hluti af því. Meginmarkmið með þessari ritgerð var að komast að því hver eru tengsl náttúrutengdrar og hestatengdrar ferðaþjónustu og sérstaklega hvaða áhrif náttúra Íslands hefur á hestatengda ferðaþjónustu meðal annars í sambandi við val þátttakenda að fara í hestaferðir sem eru lengri en sólarhringur. Til að komast að því hvaða hvata fólk hefur þegar það ákveður að fara í hestaferð og hvað bætti upplifun þess meðan á ferðinni stóð voru tekin hálfopin viðtöl við fjóra einstaklinga sem hafa komið í langa hestaferð á Íslandi. Með samanburði fyrirliggjandi fræðigreina og niðurstaðna þessarar rannsóknar, kom í ljós að hesturinn og náttúran eru eitt og hið sama í huga fólksins og að náttúrutengd og hestatengd ferðaþjónusta hafa gríðarlega mikil áhrif á hvort annað eins og að samspil milli þessara þátta er mikið. Það sýnir jákvæð tengsl milli þessara þátta sem og mikilvægi þess að huga að náttúruvernd. Tourism in Iceland is a very fast growing industry and horse-based tourism and the nature of Iceland are a big part of it. The aim of this analyse was to describe the context of naturebased and horse-based tourism and particularly the influence of Iceland's nature on horsebased tourism: What importance does nature have for the participants' decision to go on a longer horse trip in Iceland? To analyse the incentive, why people take part in a longer horse trip and to figure out what they consider as positive experience, open ended interviews were conducted with four individuals who had participated on a longer horsetrip in Iceland. The main conclusion of existing literature and the submitted research is that the horses and the nature are inseparable in the participants' minds. Nature-based and horse-based tourism have an important impact on each other and they are in close interaction.
