This Cronise photo is identified as being of volunteer firemen assembled on North Commercial Street in Salem, Oregon. One of the buildings in the background is identified as the Pioneer Bakery & Candy Manufacturory which housed Strong's Restaurant and the Arctic Soda & Ice Cream. Indeed there were two bakeries in the 200 block of Commerical in 1880, one of them being Strong's. That would put this location as being in the block between State & Court streets in downtown Salem. The men are dressed in white long-sleeved shirts and dark trousers and are pulling a piece of fire equipment. The date is ca 1886.
