| Summary: | This study is devoted to assessing the potential impact of the rejection of indirect elections of municipal heads on the level of democracy and independence of the local self-government system in Russia. The electoral process on the territory of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area was chosen as a research case. The methodology of the work is formed through a combination of elements of descriptive and structural analysis. The author comes to the conclusion that, due to the specifics of the organization of the economy of many subjects of the federation, as well as the weakness of party institutions (primarily regional branches of parliamentary opposition structures), the rejection of indirect elections will lead to an increase in the influence of representatives of interest groups affiliated with with big business. The consequence of this will only be a decrease in the level of democracy of the LSG system and the degree of its real independence Исследование посвящено оценке потенциала возможного влияния отказа от непрямых выборов муниципальных глав на уровень демократичности и самостоятельности системы местного самоуправления в России. В качестве исследовательского кейса выбран электоральный процесс на территории Ханты-Мансийского автономного округа. Методология работы сформирована за счет комбинации элементов дескриптивного и структурного анализа. Автор приходит к выводу, что, в силу специфики организации экономики многих субъектов федерации, а также слабости партийных институтов (в первую очередь - региональных отделений структур парламентской оппозиции), отказ от непрямых выборов приведет к усилению влияния внутри органов местного самоуправления представителей групп интересов, аффилированных с крупным бизнесом. Следствием чего станет лишь снижение уровня демократичности системы МСУ и степени ее реальной самостоятельности
