Description
Summary:Linear regression was used to determine if the nares-width-to-head-width ratio used in the model is colinear with body length (i.e., age), for those species with sufficient number of observations (n > 9);Details of the fieldwork locations and the equipment used to collect images of each species;Data generated from the images of whale nares along with the resolution of each image and confirmation that measurements were made in the center of the frame to minimize any effects of image distortion due to the range of camera and lens systems used (see Table S1);Summary of sensitivity model results, with mode (β) and 95% credibility intervals (CI) of the posterior distributions for the fixed terms of trophic level and nares state (open, closed) and for the random terms associated with phylogenetic variance, within species variation and residual variation (units). A plot of the associated posterior distributions is also included on the right of the table (N = 142 observations across 12 species)
