Figure 1: Evolution of the maximum depth reached during the first trip to sea in two elephant seal species. from Contrasting offspring dependence periods and diving development rates in two closely related marine mammal species

Development of depth throughout the first trip to sea in northern (n = 4) and southern elephant seals (n = 9) estimated from generalized additive models. The solid lines represent the means, and the shaded areas represent the 95% confidence intervals. Marginal density plots represent the spread of d...

Description
Summary:Development of depth throughout the first trip to sea in northern (n = 4) and southern elephant seals (n = 9) estimated from generalized additive models. The solid lines represent the means, and the shaded areas represent the 95% confidence intervals. Marginal density plots represent the spread of data for each species. Depth of 260 meters is reached in 30 days for northern elephant seals and 160 for southern elephant seals.
