Summary:Abstract— The article assesses the main directions of economic and social development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, the possibility of simultaneously combining the goals of developing the natural resources of the Arctic territories with the goals of protecting nature and supporting the traditional industries of the indigenous peoples of the North using the example of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The principles of solving these problems based on state support of indigenous people are shown. The necessity of maintaining the population of these territories is substantiated. The current practice of state support of indigenous peoples in Russia and in countries close to it by natural and climatic conditions is compared.
