In the 19th andthe 20th century some scholars tried to solve this problem by searching for echoes ofthe Veronese poet in the literature of the Middle Ages. Thus Guido Billanovich identifieda series of echoes of Catullus in the writings of the learned Paduan judge LovatoLovati (ca. 1240-1309). These would prove that there was a Paduan phase in themanuscript tradition of Catullus at the end of the 13th century. Ludwig proved thatmost of these presumed echoes are illusory, except for one that appeared convincing tohim. It is argued in this artide this last echo too should be eliminated, and there is nosign that Lovati knew Catullus. No está claro cómo los poemas de Catulo sobrevivieron al Medioevo. En los siglosXIX y XX algunos filólogos intentaron afrontar este problema buscando ecos textualesde la pervivencia del poeta veronés en la literatura medieval. Así Guido Billanovichidentificó en las obras del erudito juez paduano Lovato Lovati (ca. 1240-1309)una serie de ecos catulianos que podrían ser prueba de una fase paduana de la trasmisiónmanuscrita de Catulo a finales del siglo XIII. Ludwig demostró que la mayoría deestos supuestos ecos son ilusorios, salvo uno que le pareció convincente. En el presenteartículo se ofrecen argumentos para eliminar también este último eco aparente,y para concluir que no hay indicios de que Lovati haya conocido a Catulo. |
